Why Mask Effects Here
Only the subject, or everything else
One switch under Keep the look to: the whole picture, only the subject, or everything but the subject. Colour pop is just the Noir look on everything but the person.
Three ways to find the subject
The person (AI cut-out, nothing to click), a tracked subject (click anything and it is followed through the clip), or your own rotoscope shapes, including ones the Follow button carried through the shot.
Grade and Post FX
The colour grade and the Post FX are kept to the subject: horror light, blood on the lens, lens flare, bloom, halation, VHS and the rest. Titles are never affected.
Clean edges
For a tracked subject there are shrink and grow, edge refine and feather controls, so the effect stops where the subject does.
Live and exported the same
What you see on the preview is what is exported, frame for frame.
Private
The AI and the tracking run on your device; nothing is uploaded.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply an effect to just one person in a video?
Open the tool, choose a Post FX or a grade, then set Keep the look to › Only the subject and pick The person (AI cut-out) as the source. For a thing that is not a person, track it first with Tracked subject, or draw a rotoscope shape.
How do I make a colour pop effect?
Choose the Noir (black and white) Post FX, set Keep the look to › Everything but the subject, with the person as the source. The person stays in colour; everything else goes black and white. The Colour Pop button on this page does that for you.
Does it work with more than one person?
The AI cut-out finds the people in the frame. A tracked subject follows the one you clicked. Rotoscope can hold up to twelve shapes.
Why does it ask for the output shape to be Original?
The subject masks are in the source frame. If the output is reshaped to portrait or framed, they would no longer line up, so the app asks you to set the output shape to Original while you use them.
