Everything you need to squash a video for social
Reframe to 9:16 in one tap
Output Aspect turns any landscape or square clip into a vertical 9:16 frame — or 4:5, 1:1, 16:9, 4:3, 3:2 and 21:9.
Stretch, Fit or Crop
Stretch squashes the whole frame (the meme look). Fit keeps it undistorted over blurred or solid bars. Crop fills the frame and trims the edges.
Squish on the beat
Snap to Beat squeezes on every hit of a BPM you set; Beat Sync follows the actual audio. Both spring back with a little overshoot, like real squash and stretch.
Eight squeeze styles
Horizontal, Vertical, Both Axes, Pulse, Snap to Beat, Beat Sync, Glitch and Zoom Punch — pick an axis or let it move on its own.
Anchor and fill
Pin the squeezed picture to the bottom for the cartoon "squashed flat" look, and fill the gap with a solid colour, a gradient or a blurred copy.
Export ready to post
Record an MP4 that plays on iPhone and Android, at up to 1080p, with the original audio — then share it straight to TikTok or Instagram.
The right shape for every platform
Pick the Output Aspect that matches where you are posting. Exports keep your video's resolution; set Export Resolution to 1080p for the sizes below.
| Platform | Aspect | Size | Output Aspect setting |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok | 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 | Portrait 9:16 |
| Instagram Reels & Stories | 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 | Portrait 9:16 |
| YouTube Shorts | 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 | Portrait 9:16 |
| Instagram feed (portrait) | 4:5 | 1080 × 1350 | Portrait 4:5 |
| Instagram feed (square) | 1:1 | 1080 × 1080 | Square 1:1 |
| YouTube / landscape | 16:9 | 1920 × 1080 | Widescreen 16:9 |
Squash mode: squash, squish and stretch any video
Squash is one of Vis Exo's ten modes (press 9 in the app). Instead of tracking anything, it squeezes the picture itself: sideways, top to bottom, both, in a breathing pulse, snapped to a BPM, or bouncing to the bass of the music that's playing. The same mode reframes a landscape clip to 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 4:3 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts — stretched, fitted or cropped — so a squish edit and a vertical crop are one step, not two apps.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a video 9:16 for TikTok or Reels?
Open Squash, set Output Aspect to Portrait 9:16, then pick a Reframe: Fit keeps the whole picture undistorted with bars above and below, Crop fills the frame and trims the sides, and Stretch squashes the full frame into the vertical shape. Record, and the exported MP4 is already the right size to upload.
Is this the same as the TikTok squash or squish effect?
It is the same idea: the picture squeezes in and springs back out. Snap to Beat does it on every beat of a tempo you set, Beat Sync reacts to the music itself, and Pulse gives a slow breathing squeeze. Because it runs in a browser you can apply it to any clip, not only ones filmed inside the app.
Will it add a watermark?
No. Vis Exo is free, needs no account and never adds a watermark to your export.
Does my video get uploaded anywhere?
No. The effect, the reframing and the export all run on your own device in the browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.
Why do I see bars around my video?
Bars appear when the picture is squeezed smaller than the frame, or when Reframe is set to Fit. Change Fill to pick what goes in them (solid colour, gradient or a blurred copy of the video), set Reframe to Crop to fill the frame instead, or set Fill to Reshape Frame so the frame itself shrinks with the squeeze.
Can I stop my subject getting cut off?
Yes. Only Crop and the Fill (crop & stretch) mode trim the edges. Fit, Stretch, Solid, Gradient, Mirror Blur and Reshape Frame keep the entire frame on screen.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in Safari and Chrome. On a phone, the Squash controls — on/off, aspect, reframe, style, fill and anchor — sit on the quick bar over the video, and exports save as MP4.
