An auto-caption tool that never sees your video
Auto captions on your device
Speech-to-text runs locally with Whisper — no upload, no queue, no per-minute pricing. Works offline once the model is cached.
Many languages, auto-detected
Switch on Multilingual and the spoken language is detected for you — Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, Russian and more.
A real caption editor
Every line is editable: change the words, set exact start/end times, merge fast lines, and nudge the whole track earlier or later.
Burned-in or separate
Burn captions into the exported MP4 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, or export .srt/.vtt for YouTube, Vimeo and editors.
Readable by default
Style presets with outline and backing box keep captions legible on any footage, with the position kept clear of on-screen UI.
Live webcam captions
On a webcam, captions appear live as you speak and are recorded straight into the video.
Subtitles for every place you post
TikTok & Instagram Reels
Most short-form video is watched on mute. Burn big, centred captions in so the message lands without sound.
YouTube & Vimeo
Export an .srt and upload it as a caption track — searchable, switchable, and better for accessibility.
Interviews & podcasts
Caption a clip of a conversation for social without sending the recording to a transcription service.
Lectures & tutorials
Add accurate captions to teaching videos and screen recordings, fixing technical terms by hand.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add subtitles to a video for free?
Open the app, load your video, and press Generate in the Subtitles panel. Captions are transcribed on your device, you can edit any line, then Record to burn them in or export an .srt/.vtt file. There is no sign-up, cost or watermark.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Transcription uses a Whisper model that runs inside your browser tab, and the export is encoded on your device too. The video never leaves your computer or phone.
How accurate are the automatic captions?
Whisper is accurate on clear speech in most languages. Names, jargon and fast or overlapping speech are where it slips, which is why every line stays editable before you export. Choosing the larger model in the panel improves accuracy at the cost of speed.
Can I burn subtitles into the video permanently?
Yes. With Subtitles on, pressing Record renders the captions into every frame of the exported MP4, so they show on any platform, including TikTok and Instagram, which ignore separate caption files.
Can I download the subtitles as an SRT file?
Yes — export .srt for YouTube, Vimeo, Premiere and most editors, or .vtt for web video players. You can also import an existing .srt or .vtt, edit it and re-export.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. On a phone the Subtitles shortcut sits on the bar over the video; transcription runs on the device, so a short clip is best on older phones.
What languages are supported?
English by default. Switch on Multilingual to auto-detect the language or pick it yourself: Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic and Russian are listed, and Whisper recognises many more.
