Video to MP3 Converter, Free In Your Browser
Sometimes the picture is the part you do not need: a track from a concert recording, the audio from a lecture, a voice memo buried in an MP4. Point the converter at the video, choose an audio target, and the sound comes out on its own — decoded in your browser, not uploaded to anyone.
MP3, M4A or WAV — Choose by Where It Has to Play
MP3 — plays absolutely anywhere
Still the safest sound format there is: every phone, car stereo, television, podcast host and DJ app accepts it. It is lossy, which makes it ideal for speech and for sharing, and less ideal as an archive.
M4A (AAC) — better quality for the same size
The format iPhones record to and Apple Music uses. At an equal file size it sounds noticeably better than MP3, and it plays on Apple devices, Android and anything reasonably modern. Some older car stereos will not touch it.
WAV — uncompressed, needs no encoder
Straight PCM samples, so no bundled encoder is required and it works in every browser. The cost is size: roughly 10MB for each minute of stereo. The right answer when the audio is going straight into an editor.
The picture is discarded, not hidden
An audio target drops the video stream entirely, so what comes out is a sound file rather than a video that happens to be silent — and it is drastically smaller than the source for the same reason.
Three Steps, In Your Browser
- 1
Drop the video in
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and MPEG-TS all work. The read-out tells you the source audio codec, which is what actually gets converted.
- 2
Choose an audio target
MP3 for compatibility, M4A for quality per byte, WAV for an uncompressed copy. The Resolution control disappears, because there is no longer a picture to size.
- 3
Trim it if you like, then convert
Two songs out of one long recording? Put a start and end time in the In and Out fields and convert just that section. Then play the result in the page before saving it.
Video to MP3 on iPhone, Mac, Windows and Android
The same page works everywhere, with nothing to install. What differs is where the file comes from and where it goes.
iPhone & iPad
Pick a video from Photos and save the MP3 to Files; it plays in the Files app and in Music once imported.
Mac
Pull the soundtrack from any MOV or MP4 and drop it straight into GarageBand or Logic.
Windows
Chrome and Edge extract audio in seconds; the MP3 plays in any Windows player.
Android
Extract a voice note or song from a video and share the MP3 from Downloads.
MP3, M4A or WAV?
Three options, honestly compared — including when the right answer is to convert nothing at all.
| Target | Pick it when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 | Any player, any car stereo, any platform — the universal option. | Re-encodes the audio, so it is lossy on top of whatever the source was. |
| M4A — AAC | Apple devices, podcasts, or smaller files at the same perceived quality. | Less universally accepted than MP3 by older hardware. |
| WAV | You are going to edit or master the audio. | Uncompressed — roughly 10MB per minute, and never smaller than the source. |
Video to MP3 FAQ
How do I get the audio out of a video?
Drop the video in, set the target to MP3, M4A or WAV, and press Convert Video. The picture is discarded and only the soundtrack is written out — locally in your browser, with nothing uploaded.
Which audio format should I choose?
MP3 if it has to play on anything, including older and unusual players. M4A when quality matters more than raw compatibility, since it sounds better at the same size. WAV when you need it uncompressed.
Does the extracted audio keep its original quality?
Only WAV is lossless. MP3 and M4A re-encode the sound, so some quality is spent — which is why the page shows you the source codec first, and why High quality gives the encoder more room.
Can I extract the audio from just part of a long video?
Yes. Put a start and an end time into the In and Out fields and only that section is written out, starting at zero. That is the usual way to pull a single track from a full concert or meeting recording.
Is there a length or size limit?
No upload limit and nothing to pay, because the file never leaves your device. Very long recordings are limited only by your own machine — memory during the conversion, and patience.
Related Converters
WebM to MP4
Screen recordings and browser captures arrive as WebM, which iPhones and QuickTime will not open. This turns them into H.264 MP4s.
Compress a Video
Keep the format, drop the resolution and the bitrate — the same engine that converts also makes files smaller.
MOV to MP4
QuickTime files that already hold H.264 and AAC are re-wrapped rather than re-encoded — near-instant, with nothing lost.
MKV to MP4
Matroska is the archive container, and its contents are frequently H.264 and AAC already — so the conversion is usually a lossless re-wrap.
Convert it, then track something in it
Vis Exo adds blob tracking, pose skeletons, trails, LUT grades and captions to the finished MP4 — free, and entirely in your browser.
