Vis Exo USE CASE — MUSIC SYNC

Edit Video to the Beat

The tempo and the drum hits are read from the soundtrack ahead of time, so the picture lands exactly on them in the preview and in the export: a zoom on the kick, a flash on the snare, a light show that follows the song, cuts that snap to the beat. From the clip’s own sound or a music track.

What you get

Why Sync Video to Music Here

Found ahead of time, exact

The beat grid, the kick, snare, hi-hat and vocal hits and the drops are found from the whole soundtrack, so a hit lands on its frame the same in the preview and the export. Nothing depends on playback speed or a live microphone.

Lead-in

Each hit can start to move just before the drum lands and peak on it, the way an editor keys a zoom into the downbeat, instead of reacting after it.

Follow the song

Effects are gentle in a quiet verse and full in the chorus, read from the loudness of the whole track, and a build-up creeps in over the bars before a drop.

Kick, snare, bass, vocals

Kick and snare each have their own flash, and the snare can knock the frame sideways. Bass, mids, highs and vocals drive their own effects, or you can send one part of the music to everything.

A light show that follows

Washes, sweeping beams, a spotlight on the tracked subject, a strobe and lasers, in presets such as Concert, Blackout and Rave, with the kick and snare cutting or lifting the lights.

Cuts that snap to the beat

In the editor, trim an edge onto the nearest beat, fit a clip to a number of beats, start on the first beat, end on a bar, and let titles and effects hit the grid.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I edit a video to the beat of a song?

Add the song on the Music track (or use the clip’s own sound), switch on Audio reactivity or Beat sync, pick a preset such as Song, and play. In the editor, drag clip edges: they snap to the beat grid.

Does it work with the video’s own sound or only a music track?

Both. The grid and the hits are found from the clip’s soundtrack or from the Music track when there is one. A webcam or the microphone works live.

Will the export match the preview?

Yes. The hits are computed from the audio as a function of time, not measured live, so the export lands exactly where the preview did.

Can I slow the effect to every other beat?

Yes: the thump speed runs from every fourth hit to four times a beat, and the effect strength, how quickly it falls back and the lead-in are sliders.

What formats can the music be?

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC and more, as the browser can decode them.
