Vis Exo COMPARE — DAVINCI RESOLVE

A DaVinci Resolve Alternative That Runs in Your Browser

DaVinci Resolve is a superb editor and grading suite — and a big download that wants a strong graphics card. When you just need to cut a few clips, grade them with a LUT, add titles and captions and export, Vis Exo does that in a browser tab on any laptop, Chromebook or phone, with nothing to install and nothing uploaded.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Resolve for finishing films. Vis Exo for quick edits anywhere.

They are not the same kind of tool, and pretending otherwise would waste your afternoon. Here is the honest split.

Stay with DaVinci Resolve if…

  • you grade professionally: node trees, qualifiers, power windows, HDR and scopes
  • you composite in Fusion or mix a feature soundtrack in Fairlight
  • you need multicam, proxies, speed ramps or 4K+ delivery
  • your computer has a strong GPU and you are happy to install a large app

Use Vis Exo if…

  • your laptop or Chromebook struggles with Resolve, or you cannot install software
  • you want to cut, grade with a LUT, title and caption a clip in minutes
  • you want built-in looks Resolve makes you build: VHS, datamosh, film grain, AI tracking effects
  • you are on a phone or a borrowed computer and the footage must not be uploaded

SWITCHING OVER

Coming from Resolve? Here is where everything is

The editor is laid out the way a Resolve user expects: settings on the left, viewer in the middle, inspector on the right, timeline across the bottom.

Media pool
The Media tab, top left of the editor — import, or drop files anywhere
Edit page
The editor timeline: S splits, Delete ripple-deletes, drag edges to trim, J/L cuts on the seam
Color page
Looks and the inspector: 33 LUTs, .cube import, Lift / Gamma / Gain / Offset
Fusion titles
The Titles lane and the Text tab — 245 templates, animated entrances
Fairlight
Sound: music and SFX tracks, fades, voice effects, the clip’s own level
Keyframes
Automation in the inspector — any setting, on the timeline
Deliver page
Export, top right: MP4 or WebM up to 2K, or PNG frames
USE BOTH

Or use it alongside Resolve

Make the effect here, finish it there

Blob tracking, datamosh, VHS or a tracking overlay: export the clip as MP4 or as PNG frames and drop it on a Resolve timeline. How the workflow goes.

Bring your LUTs

Any .cube LUT you use in Resolve loads here, so a rough cut on a laptop already looks like the grade.

Tracking data, not just pixels

Export per-frame positions as CSV to drive your own effects. Tracking data export.

What you get

What You Get Without Installing Anything

A timeline you can grab

Every clip is a filmstrip block. Drag to reorder (a marker shows where it will land), drag an edge to trim, press S to split at the playhead, Delete to remove it and close the gap, and Ctrl-scroll to zoom.

Transitions between shots

Click the seam between two clips for a crossfade, a dip to black or a dip to white, from a quarter of a second to a second and a half. Crossfades overlap the picture and the sound.

Drop clips anywhere

Drag several videos onto the page at once, or onto the timeline at the exact spot you want them. MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV all work.

Titles, music and effects

Text and intros have their own lanes, audio files drop onto a Music track, and every effect and tracking mode applies to the whole edit.

Settings left, inspector right

Laid out like a desktop editor: settings on the left, the preview in the middle, trim, crop, text and keyframes on the right.

Private by design

The clips are decoded and joined in your browser from the original files, so a re-edit never loses quality and nothing leaves your machine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a DaVinci Resolve online version?

DaVinci Resolve is a desktop application; it does not run in a browser. Vis Exo is a browser-based editor for the everyday part of the job — cutting, LUT grading, titles, captions and export — with nothing to install.

What is a good DaVinci Resolve alternative for a low-end PC or Chromebook?

A browser editor avoids Resolve’s GPU requirement entirely. Vis Exo runs in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox on ordinary hardware, including Chromebooks.

Can I use my DaVinci Resolve LUTs?

Yes. Any 3D or 1D .cube file loads in the colour panel and is parsed locally.

Can Vis Exo replace Resolve for colour grading?

Not for professional grading — there are no qualifiers, power windows or node trees. It does LUTs, Lift / Gamma / Gain / Offset, film emulation and grain, which covers most social and personal edits.

Is it really free with no watermark?

Yes. No watermark, no account and no export limit.

Can I move a project from Resolve to Vis Exo?

Not the project file — bring the media. Export clips from Resolve, drop them in, and they land on the timeline in order.
